The Challenge

Although Livingstone Brown had invested in a VMWare cluster and Remote Desktop Services during COVID, their infrastructure was becoming increasingly outdated. There was growing concern over data security, system performance, and the lack of flexibility in scaling for hybrid work. 

The IT environment was no longer delivering the reliability or compliance controls needed to support the firm’s legal operations. A future-proof solution was required—one that could enable secure, high-performance remote access while aligning with strict data protection regulations.

The Solution

Certum guided the firm through a migration to Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), combined with Microsoft 365 Business Premium. AVD provided virtualised desktops tailored to user roles, enabling access to legal systems from any location without compromising security. 

Business Premium licensing unlocked advanced security features such as conditional access, identity protection, and information governance tools. Certum also provided change management support to ensure adoption and smooth integration into the firm’s workflows.

The Results

The migration to AVD and Microsoft 365 created a stable, scalable platform that improved both remote and in-office working experiences. Lawyers and staff could securely access systems from any device while maintaining compliance. 

The performance improvements reduced daily technical interruptions, allowing for more focused client work. Security policies were centralised and automated, reducing risk while streamlining administration. The IT foundation now fully supports Livingstone Brown’s strategic ambitions for secure and flexible legal service delivery.
