National Governing Body for Lawn Bowls

Bowls Scotland is the national governing body for lawn bowls in Scotland, overseeing the development and promotion of the sport across the country.

The Challenge

Bowls Scotland needed to modernise their IT systems to support more effective communication with clubs, streamline membership services, and improve internal operations. Their legacy systems were fragmented and difficult to manage, lacking integration or the ability to scale. 

Staff often encountered delays in accessing key documents and struggled to coordinate event logistics and community engagement initiatives. With increasing digital expectations from members, the organisation needed to raise its technology baseline rapidly.

The Solution

Certum introduced a centralised IT framework that included upgraded networking, secure cloud storage, and collaboration tools designed for dispersed teams. We moved key operations onto Microsoft 365, allowing staff to manage events, memberships, and outreach from a single platform. 

Network upgrades improved bandwidth and reliability at the national office, and mobile access was extended to team members working off-site. Training and change management support ensured user adoption across all levels of the organisation.

The Results

Bowls Scotland saw a transformation in how internal teams and external stakeholders engaged. Club communications became more consistent, document sharing was simplified, and administrative processes were streamlined. 

Staff could coordinate events and campaigns with greater speed and fewer errors. The enhanced infrastructure has enabled Bowls Scotland to strengthen its leadership role in the sport and better serve the needs of its members and the broader bowling community.

Certum have provided our IT support for the past year.  Over the course of the last year we have upgraded our IT kit to enable us to provide an improved service to our clubs and members and installed a new IT system to manage club membership.  This means that it is essential that our IT infrastructure is working efficiently and that if there are any issues, the support is in place to be able to rectify these quickly and efficiently.  The team are always on the ball providing a quick and efficient service and nothing is ever too much trouble.  I can honestly say that my experience of working with Certum is very a positive one.
