St Columba’s School is one of Scotland’s highest-achieving co-educational independent day schools, known for its commitment to academic excellence and holistic education.

The Challenge

St Columba’s faced growing pressure to modernise its IT infrastructure in response to evolving digital learning demands. The school needed to support more interactive teaching tools, ensure secure access to learning materials, and enable better collaboration between students and staff. 

At the same time, any transition had to be minimally disruptive and compatible with existing administrative systems. There were also compliance requirements around safeguarding student data and managing online activity across a range of devices.

The Solution

Certum conducted a full IT infrastructure audit and worked with school leadership to design a strategic roadmap for improvement. This included upgrading core networking equipment, deploying secure cloud services for collaboration, and implementing device management policies across staff and student devices. 

In addition, we provided targeted training to teaching staff on using cloud-based tools effectively and offered ongoing support to ensure a smooth transition and consistent user experience.

The Results

The upgrades delivered measurable improvements in teaching efficiency, communication, and digital safety. Teachers gained access to real-time collaborative tools that enhanced lesson delivery, while students experienced faster, more reliable access to learning materials. 

IT administration was simplified, and centralised monitoring helped the school enforce policies and address issues proactively. The school is now better positioned to integrate emerging educational technologies and maintain high academic standards in a digital-first world.
